Aurat pria yg tak boleh dilihat oleh pria lain dan aurat wanita yang tak boleh dilihat oleh wanita lain adalah antara pusar dan lutut. Aurat wanita dalam hubungannya dengan pria lain atau wanita yang tak seagama adalah seluruh tubuhnya kecuali muka dan kedua telapak tangan.

Aisha meriwayatkan bahwa saudaranya, Asma, pernah masuk ke rumah Rasulullah s.a.w. dengan berpakaian tipis sehingga nampak kulitnya. Rasulullah S.A.W. berpaling dan mengatakan:
"Hai Asma, sesungguhnya seorang perempuan bila sudah datang waktu haid, tidak patut diperlihatkan tubuhnya itu, melainkan ini dan ini---sambil ia menunjuk muka dan kedua telapak tangannya."
