kemaren sempat ngobrol ma temen2 kampus masalah i-net den sempat menyinggung auto update, tepatnya Adobe Update. Pada kesel tuh ama fitur auto update milik Adobe yang tiba-tiba nongol sendiri. So, nyeletuk aja deh, “kan bisa dimatiin di setting-nya”, kena reply “ga bisa mas, ga ada dicari di setting juga”.
nah loh, nyarinay aja yang kurang teliti tuh ^_^ so kepikiran nulis nih artikel buat bantuin yang sekiranya membutuhkan uluran tangan ‘menjinakkan’ adobe updater ^_^
oke, dimulai aja ga pake panjang x lebar = luas. Nih issue (so’ british dikit) dah dijelasin sih benernya di site adobe, mungkin kurang minat aja yah baca site adobe

Turn off automatic updates on Windows OS
If your computer is connected to the internet, then you can change the Adobe Updater preferences to not check for updates.
To Change the Adobe Updater preferences, do the following:
1. Start the AdobeUpdater.exe application from …\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Updater 5
2. When the update screen appears, click the Preferences button
3. Uncheck the Automatically Check for updates checkbox and click OK
If your computer does not have an internet connection, then you can manually edit the AdobeUpdaterPreferences.dat file.
To manually edit the AdobeUpdaterPreferences.dat file, do the following:
1. Start the AdobeUpdater.exe application from …\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Updater 5
2. When the Adobe Updater dialog appears stating that there is no Internet connection, click Cancel
3. Navigate to …\Documents and Settings\[username]\Local Settings\Application Data\Adobe\Updater5 on Windows XP or …\[username]\AppData\Local\Adobe\Updater5 on Vista and open AdobeUpdaterPrefs.dat in Notepad.
4. If the <AutoCheck>1</AutoCheck> tag already exists, then change the value from 1 to 0. Otherwise, add the line <AutoCheck>0</AutoCheck> anywhere between the <AdobeUpdater></AdobeUpdater> tags.
5. Close and save the AdobeUpdaterPrefs.dat file.

nah kurang jelas apalagi coba biar lebih jelas aku lengkapin pake screenie deh.
basicly ada 2 cara, yang pertama kalo pc kamu terhubung ke internet bisa langsung pake cara pertama dnegan merubah preference adobe update (buat yang bingung nampilin nih layar, adobe update preferences cuman bisa muncul kalo koneksi ke internet) dan mengubah setting updater pada file config-nya menggunakan notepad.
ku jelasin yang pertama aja, yang rada2 tricky. so, here goes.
asumsi kamu terhubung ke internet, jalankan adobeupdater.exe sesuai keternagan diatas, atau kalo aku sih, dari[ada brwose tuh folder, jalanin salah satu aplikasi adobe (dalam hal ini adobe reader dan masuk ke menu help dan pilih’check updates’

abis gitu sabar aja, tunggu adobe updater mencoba ngecek update. toh ini bakal jadi terakhir kali dia ngecek update so kasih jalan aja lah keiinginan terakhir dia ^_^

nah, setelah selesai ngecek, baik ada update ato ga ada ntar kamu bakal ngadapin tampilan yang ngijinin kamu untuk download update - atau mengubah pengaturan update. klik link yang bertuliskan “Preferences”

tar bakal muncul perngaturan update, kosongkan pilihan update untuk produk-produk tertentu aja, atau kosongkan pilihan automatic update untuk mentiadakan automatic update. kalo udah selesai, klik ok. beres deh

perlu diingat, update penting loh, jadi pikir baek2 kalo mau disable update. tu update diantaranya ada yang ditujukan untuk mengatasi masalah keamanan adobe.
