Selama ini mayoritas game online memiliki tampilan grafis yang kuno. Ini menjadikan game-game online selama ini bukanlah sebuah game yang mampu memberikan kenikmatan visual melainkan hanyalah sebuah nostalgia yang mengingatkan kita akan game-game jadul tempo dulu.

Itulah yang menyebabkan mayoritas hardware freak dan hardcore gamer menganggap "najis" untuk menyentuh game online karena tampilan grafisnya yang kuno. Sebab menurut mereka memainkan game online sama seperti dipaksa menonton TV hitam putih padahal mata sudah terbiasa dengan TV berwarna.

Teknologi grafis yang digunakan pada mayoritas game online saat ini memang cukup konyol dan menggelikan. Di jamannya game 3D ala Crysis yang bertabur efek DirectX10, ternyata hampir semua game online justru bermunculan dengan tampilan grafis ala game jaman purba, bahkan banyak pula yang masih 2D.

Lucunya masih banyak pula yang menggemari game online dengan tampilan jadul semacam itu. Ini tak mengherankan karena hingga kini juga masih banyak pula anak yang ngotot bermain kelereng di era IT. Juga masih banyak pula orang yang merasa nikmat menonton TV hitam putih.

Namun setelah sekian lama tertinggal di bidang teknologi grafis, beberapa game online kini mulai mengadopsi tampilan grafis yang bagus, yaitu menggunakan engine Unreal 3 seperti pada game Gears Of War dan Bioshock. Mortal Online akan menjadi salah satu game online yang menggunakan engine Unreal 3. Game MMO bertemakan dunia fantasi ini dibuat oleh Star Vault. Mereka akan merilis game tersebut pada tahun 2009.

Sebelumnya, NCsoft, developer serial game online Lineage kabarnya juga berencana untuk menggunakan engine Unreal 3 pada seri Lineage mendatang.

Semoga saja game online mulai bangkit dari keterbelakangan teknologi grafis.

Kalo tergantung ping sih enak tuh tinggal koneksi aja di kencengin, dan hardware buat unreal engine 3 ini ga mahal2 amatlah pake ati 3650, ato 8600gt yg seharga 900rban udah kenceng banget dah, warnet kan dah mulai ada yg pake 8600gt gitu.

bukannya justru Unreal memang bagus yah buat game yg bener2 rame dan rusuh?


dulu wa main Unreal 2003 aja 20 AI pake reedeemer semua gak terlalu ngelag2 amat tuh pake Radeon 9500.
