Obsidian Entertainment yang karyanya sudah cukup banyak dikenal oleh kita melalui game Neverwinter Nights 2 dan Knights of The Old Republic II (KoTOR II), mengumumkan game terbaru mereka yang berjudul Alpha Protocol.



Game ini bercerita tentang petualangan seorang mata-mata yang bernama Michael Thorton. Petualangan Michael kurang lebih akan menyerupai petualangan superspy lainnya yang sudah kita kenal dengan baik seperti James Bond dan Jason Bourne, namun bedanya petualangan Michael akan mengambil waktu di masa depan.



Alpha Protocol akan ber-genre spy-oriented action RPG. Game yang menggunakan sudut pandang orang ke-tiga (3rd person) ini secara garis besar gameplay-nya akan mirip dengan Mass Effect. Sistem percakapan ala Mass Effect akan diadopsi dan tentu saja dengan penambahan fitur yang diantaranya adalah pengaturan nada bicara saat percakapan berlangsung. Namun tidak seperti pada game-game RPG lainnya, di Alpha Protocol ini Michael hanya akan dibolehkan untuk berbicara sekali saja dengan NPC , sehingga pemilihan dialog dan nada bicara harus lebih hati-hati dilakukan.



Skill yang dimiliki oleh Michael akan berkembang sesuai dengan berjalannya permainan dan secara garis besar ada dua tipe aksi yang dapat dipilih oleh Jack, beraksi secara diam-diam atau beraksi secara terang-terangan. Aksi yang dilakukan oleh Jack tidak semata-mata hanya berkelahi, tembak-menembak dan menyusup, tetapi seperti layaknya James Bond, Jack juga dapat melakukan "aksi" dengan para wanita yang akan ditemuinya di sepanjang petualangannya.



Bekerja sama dengan SEGA sebagai penerbit game ini, Alpha Protocol diharapkan akan rilis pada musim semi tahun 2009 nanti untuk konsol Playstation 3 dan XBox 360 serta PC.



Bermain sebagai agen rahasia seperti James Bond dengan peralatan canggih ditambah dengan "aksi"-nya yang khas tentu saja mengasyikkan, apalagi jika semua itu dilakukan di masa depan yang serba modern. Petualangan Michael Thorton patut kita nantikan di tahun 2009 nanti, dengan didukung oleh studio game yang sudah berpengalaman dan memiliki reputasi yang baik di genre RPG, diharapkan game ini mampu menghadirkan pengalaman bermain yang mengasyikkan dan adiktif.
