Para pengembang game sepertinya mulai kedepan akan mendapatkan kemudahan dalam membuat dunia-dunia virtual yang semakin nyata dan mengisinya penuh dengan kehidupan. Hal ini diperkuat dengan sebuah kerjasama antara Nvidia dengan NaturalMotion untuk memperkuat teknologi PhysX mereka.

Dari hasil baca baca gw lebih dari 20 artikel, gw menyimpulkan kalo Natural Motion DNM - Euphoria, itu physics AI sedangkan Havok Physics itu engine.

DNM - Euphoria itu kayak list excel yang isinya perhitungan kalkulatis bagaiman sebuah karakter akan bereaksi terhadap lingkungannya. Karakter yang dimaksud disini bisa semua macam benda. Jadi Euphoria itu AI nya doang.
Havok bertugas untuk memberitahu Euphoria bagian mana yang harus di emulasikan physicsnya, Euphoria akan menghitung benda itu harus bagaimana harus bertindak sesuai dengan trigger ( statement benda ), tindakannya lalu di emulasikan oleh engine Havok.

Untuk lebih mudahnya, bayangkan ini :
Havok = foobar
Euphoria = AsioFoobar / Skin template.

Euphoria DNM itu cuma addon untuk system phisics. Sementara kalkulasi physics tetep dilakukan oleh Havok Engine. Euphoria itu berat, dan bahkan komputer sekarang belum mampu untuk merender benda segitu banyak yang di emulasikan pake euphoria, makanya untuk console, fitur2 euphoria AI akan di 'optimize' ( baca : dipotong yang nggak perlu ). Begitu juga untuk PC, sampai saat ini. Euphoria + Havok baru bisa jalan optimal kalo hardware nya emang udah ada instruksi untuk itu.

Kalo di GPU, gw kurang tau, tapi kalo di CPU, itu SSE4. Di GPU kayaknya pake chip x86 khusus. Jadi sebenernya kalo mau, AGEIA juga tinggal download aja itu Euphoria DNM. Terus gabungin dah sama AGEIA.

Havok ( tanpa euphoria ) itu bagus soalnya lightweight. AGEIA itu nggak masuk akal, perlu hardware khusus. Tapi bagaimanapun soal realisme, ternyata Ageia lebih baik ketimbang Havok ( tanpa euphoria ). Nah setelah ditambah euphoria ini, nggak tau deh. Blom ada artikel yang membandingkan langsung kedua nya. cmiiw.

Tapi yang jelas jadi sama sama berat, CPU intensive.

Jadi Natural Motion bener bener nggak ada hubungannya sama Havok dan Ageia. Natural Motion ( pencipta Euphoria ) itu cuma ngasih list bahwa benda benda itu harusnya bertindak seperti "ini" dalam sistem physics. Benda A beda dengan benda B, dan benda B beda dengan benda C dan E. Dia cuma AI doang bukan engine.

Yang menonjol dari Euphoria, itu perubahan sifat yang ditunjukkan pada ragdoll physics, dan physics material lain karet, kayu, besi, beton, plastik, sampai jelly.

baca di guru3d ktanya gpu nvdia diatas seri 8, bisa ngaktifin fungsi physx di GPU

Let me show you a test run with the new GeForce 177.39 driver and then with the NVIDIA PhysX (8.06.12) driver installed:
  • PhysX driver on: Overall Performance score 7493 - GPU score 6029
  • PhysX driver off: Overall Performance score 5823 - GPU score 6022
It causes a bit of a concern as what exactly is the new score now telling us ? Definitely not GPU performance, but it does boost the overall Vantage score significantly. Looking further ahead ... If you measure game performance with PhysX enabled in a game that actually supports it, the framerate will be slower opposed to a competitor who doesn't have that function enabled/supported.
My suggestion to NVIDIA, definitely make an on/off switch in the drivers so the press can measure objectively. It's a great feature though, and I love to see this well developed and become a standard in games.
