Kalkulasi GPU, bagaimanakah menghitungnya?


Dewasa ini teknologi GPU/kartu grafis berkembang sangat pesat hampir tak terkendali. Dalam kurun waktu 2000 sampai degan 2007 saja, mereka berkembang dari generasi ke generasi yang bisa dikatakan: “semarak”. API DirectX dan OpenGL adalah sebagai pemicu faktor utama, selain juga tuntutan grafis yang canggih dan manis baik dari gamer dan developer. Di artikel kali ini, saya mencoba mengajak kita untuk mencoba mengkalkulasi performa GPU itu secara teori yang semoga nanti bisa digunakan sebagai pedoman dalam berburu kartu grafis. Lain hari lain cerita, lupakan semua tulisan yang tertera di box/kardus kartu grafis anda. Semakin geli saja dengan bumbu-bumbu marketing yang ada. 320 Stream Processor, 12 Pixel Shader Processor, 512bit Ring Bus dan sebagainya. Embel-embel itu mampu menjawab secara sekilas, namun kadang membingungkan. Sedikit membahas GPU-GPU DX10 Q2 2007 sebagai contoh. Semoga berguna bagi kita semua dan mohon koreksi apabila terjadi kesalahan.

Shader house
… blab bla bla, tujuan kita ada lah menghitung flops, yang gampangannya adalah kecepatan GPU per cycle operation. Kemampuan GPU menangani shader wajib hukumnya bagi GPU-GPU DX9 ke atas.

Kalkulasi flops didapat dari:
ALU*flops*Core (Mhz) = Mflops, /1000 Gflops
ALU itu apa? Jaman dulu biasa dikenal pipeline, jaman sekarang unified pipeline, unified shader ato stream processor, gitu aja deh. Praktis kita cuma punya 2 vendor chip grafis yang masih bertahan untuk bersaing pada waktu-waktu ini, sebelumnya akan kita jabarkan “pendekatan” masing-masing vendor GPU yang memang sedikit “berbeda”.

Nvidia DX10-gen
ALU l 2+1 flops l Shader Clock
Misal:
8800GTX, 128 Stream Processor, 1350Mhz Shader Clock mampu menangani 2+1 flops atau 3 per-cycle --> 128x3x1350= 520Gflops.
Bagaimana dengan 8600GT? 8600GT dengan 32 Stream Processor dan 1350Mhz Shader clock akan memiliki flops sebesar 32x3x1350 = 130Gflops. 8800GTS beda lagi, karena setiap G80 punya Shader clock yang berbeda-beda. Untuk 8800Ultra Shader clock nya adalah 1500Mhz dengan jumlah Stream processor yang sama dengan GTX, lalu 1200Mhz untuk 8800GTS dengan jumlah Stream processor sebesar 96.

ATI DX10-gen
MADxSIMD l 2flops l Clock Core
Di sini, Shader clock ATI sama dengan Core clock GPU chip. ATI memakai MAD dan SIMD untuk ALU nya. 320 Stream processor di HD2900XT itu tak lain adalah 65MAD dan 5SIMD (64x5). Dan dia mampu menangani 2 flops per-cycle.
Misal:
HD2900XT, 320 Stream Processor dengan core clock 740Mhz
akan memiliki flops sebesar 64x5x2x740= 474Gflps.
Bagaimana dengan HD2600XT dengan 120 Stream processor dan core clock sebesar 800Mhz (65nm)? HD2600XT akan memiliki 24x5x2x800 = 192Gflops.

Fillrate
ROP akan berhubungan langsung dengan Pixel Fillrate dan TMU akan berhubungan langsung engan Texture Fillrate. Kedua nama ini (ROP dan TMU) tidak akan anda jumpai pada kardus VGA anda Google adalah alamat yang tepat untuk mencari berapa ROP dan TMU VGA anda (sekarang dan atau yang akan anda beli dalam waktu dekat ini).

Cara menghitung Fillrate adalah dengan ROP dan TMU yang dikalikan ke Core clock maka akan ketemu hasinya dalam satuan MPixel/s untuk Pixel Fillrate dan MTexel/s untuk Texture Fillrate.

Contoh:
Nvidia 8800GTX, 24ROP 32TMU dengan Core clock 575Mhz.
24x575: 13800MPixel/s --> 13.8GPixel/s
32x575: 18400MPixel/s --> 18.4GTexel/s

Nvidia 8600GT, 8ROP 12TMU dengan Core clock 540Mhz.
8x540: 4320MPixel/s --> 4.32GPixel/s
12x540: 6480MPixel/s --> 6.48GTexel/s

ATI HD2900XT, 16ROP 16TMU dengan Core clock 740Mhz
16x740: 11840MPixel/s --> 11.84GPixel/s
16x740: 11840MPixel/s --> 11.84GTexel/s

ATI HD2600XT, 4ROP 8TMU dengan Core clock 800Mhz
4x800: 3200MPixel/s --> 3.2GPixel/s
8x800: 6400MPixel/s --> 6.4GTexel/s

Dan lain sebagainya. Untuk Texture Fillrate, anda juga bisa menggunakan 3DMark06 pada test MultiTexture Fillrate. Hasil nya pasti tidak akan jauh berbeda dengan teori TMUxCore clock. Google sangat membantu menemukan berapa jumlah ROP dan TMU anda.

Lalu apa kegunaannya? Untuk ROP saja misal, Pixel Fillrate adalah berapa kemampuan GPU untuk menampilkan ribuan Pixel dalam 1 detik. Ambil contoh mo main game di resolusi 1280x1024. Berapa pixel kah itu? 1310720 pixels. Target adalah 60 frame pixel tiap 1 detik a.k.a mulus 60fps. Maka 1310720/60= 21.845MPixel/s, wuups… belum di AA

Memory Bandwith
Nah, tulisan mem bandwidth ini biasanya ada di kardus. Tinggal mengalikan berapa bit dengan berapa Memory Clock (DDR) lalu dibagi 8. DDR1, 2, 3 dan 4 tidak mempengaruhi dalam perhitungan. Angka 1, 2, 3 dan 4 di belakang DDR hanya menunjukkan tipe dan pencapaian kecepatan frekuensi VRam tersebut. Misal DDR3 itu rata-rata berkecepatan 1400Mhz dan DDR4 itu berkecepatan 2000Mhz secara default. Untuk beberapa DDR3 dengan 1.1ns bisa nyaman di 1600Mhz.

Contoh:
ATI X1950Pro aja ya
Memory Clock 743Mhz --> DDR 1486Mhz (x2 Doubledate Rated)
Memory bus 256Bit
Maka memory bandwidth: (256x1486)/8 = 47552 MB/s --> 47.52GB/s

Beberapa kalkulasi pada poin-poin yang dimana adalah jantung dan hati GPU itu maka nanti pada real world akan seperti dibawah ini:
1. Data dari HDD dibaca dan disimpan di VRAM.
2. Dari VRam dikirim ke GPU, ada yang masih disimpan secara temporary di VRam.
3. GPU setup, triangle, transformation, lighting, shading bla bla bla dengan kemampuan flops.
4. Texturing dan filtering berhubungan langsung dengan TMU. (Anisotropic ada di sini)
5. Lebar bandwidth akan sangat menentukan kinerja bersambung tersebut.
6. Pixeling oleh ROP dan dikirim ke frame buffer untuk kemudian muncul di layar monitor.
(Fog, Z, Antialiasing, buffering semua dikerjakan di sini)
7. Untuk normal gaming yang smooth adalah 30 frame yang muncul di layar monitor dalam 1 detik!
8. Referensi apabila hendak mengoverclock GPU, berapa kenaikan flops, fillrate dan bandwidth?
9. Referensi apabila hendak membeli GPU, berapa flops, fillrate dan bandwidth?

klo bagus mana GPU A dengan kapasitas VRam keciiiil ama GPU B dengan VRam besar ??? tetep kenceng GPU C dengan mem bus tinggi dan mem clock tinggi
