Microsoft Ingin Tangkal Penyakit Pikun - 20-04-08, 18:34



Redmond - Tak hanya terjun di bisnis komputer, Microsoft rupanya juga ingin menangkal penyakit pikun.

Pasalnya, produsen software ini sedang mendukung jalannya proyek penelitian kesehatan berbasis teknologi. Salah satu tujuannya untuk mencari penyebab pasti penyakit kepikunan semacam Parkinson dan Alzheimer.
Proyek tersebut tercakup dalam program Computational Challenges of Genome Wide Association Studies (GWAS).

Microsoft pun telah menyeleksi enam proyek terkait kesehatan dari 40 proposal yang dikirim dari berbagai institusi pendidikan di seluruh dunia.

Tujuannya untuk membantu para peneliti ini dalam mendalami seluk beluk penyakit dengan teknologi. Dana sebesar USD 850 ribu pun digelontorkan untuk mendukung penelitian.

"Dalam berbagai proyek yang didukung Microsoft, barangkali tak ada yang lebih mempengaruhi perekonomian maupun kehidupan manusia sebagaimana proyek kesehatan," tutur Kristin Tolle, Manajer Program Biomedis Komputer Microsoft.
