Exclamation Sudah Efektifkah Sistem Peringatan Dini ??? - 23-07-06, 21:18
Beberapa hari terakhir kita saksikan di televisi ada uji coba sistem peringatan dini gempa dan tsunami. Bahkan tadi sore (tgl 23 Juli 2006) sistem ini sudah di uji dengan gempa yang terjadi di daerah sulawesi (minahasa). Sekilas sistem ini berjalan dengan baik. Lalu mengapa saya memprtanyakan ke efektifan sistem ini ?

Pertanyaan tersebut muncul setelah saya ngobrol dengan teman saya yang sempat menjadi saksi (korban) empa jogja. Berdasarkan penuturannya, dapat saya simpulkan bahwa sistem ini BELUM EFEKTIF. Mengapa ? Karena pada saat gempa mana mungkin kita akan sempat melihat televisi ?, Listrik padam, radio-pun gak ada (penyiarnya keburu menyelamatkan diri), bahkan "souvenir abad 21" handphone-pun gak berguna karena tidak adanya sinyal. Jadi menurut saya sistem ini gak lebih dari headline news yang tanyang tiap 1 jam di salah satu channel TV.

Berdasarkan keterangan teman saya salah satu cara untuk menyampaikan peringatan bencana adalah dengan menempatkan sirine tanda bahaya di setiap daerah yang rawan bencana. Hal ini jauh lebih efektif dari pada menyiarkannya melalui media massa (TV, Radio, SMS). Sistem ini dapat bekerja dengan baik di lereng Gunung Merapi. Ketika awan panas wedhus gembel meningkat maka sirine akan meraung2 memperingatkan penduduk sekitar untuk segera mengungsi. Selain itu dibutuhkan suatu pelatihan kepada masyarakat tentang cara berlindung yang benar sehingga dapat meminimalisasi korban.
Semoga pemerintah sadar bahwa sistem yang ada sekarang hanya dapat bekerja dengan baik di daerah yang tidak terkena bencana.
