GSdx vs ZeroGS - 27-05-08, 00:59

Apa yang membedakan antara keduanya ?
Secara general, GSdx dan ZeroGS keduanya berfungsi sama, merender frame by frame untuk kemudian di translate menjadi tampilan grafis di monitor kita. Keduanya sama sama menggunakan gs format sebagai format utama, kecuali jika game nya memungkinkan beda. 1 hal yang paling membedakan antara gsdx dan zerogs adalah proses gambar tadi di translate.

GSdx
GSdx lebih banyak menggunakan format gs langsung secara native. Meniru PS2, GSdx menggunakan cpu sebagai alat pemrosesan grafis.

Keuntungan :

Menggunakan format .gs, jadi lebih mirip kinerja PS2 sebenarnya.
Tidak terlalu banyak pemrogramman yang tidak perlu.
Cepat dan responsif, tergantung CPU.

Kerugian :

Butuh CPU yang kuat.
Berat untuk CPU, karena CPU x86 tidak diciptakan untuk pengolahan raster.
Butuh CPU masa kini untuk benar benar bisa menampilkan semua efek tanpa lag.
Justru mengemulasikan pixel shader untuk bisa di proses lewat CPU, dan lemot, sampai sekarang.
Grafis tampil as is apa adanya.


ZeroGS
ZeroGS menimpakan proses rendering pada kartu grafis, walau tidak sepenuhnya. Karena bersifat emulasi, maka kompatibilitas nya lebih sulit dari GSdx. ZeroGS lebih ringan bagi beban CPU karena proses shader yang rumit tidak di bebankan pada CPU.

Keuntungan :

Beban pada kartu grafis lebih banyak, CPU hanya digunakan sebagai pemrosesan loading dan sebagainya.
Mampu menampilkan rendering shader yang sulit dilakukan oleh CPU.
Cenderung lebih cepat untuk game game yang intense shader ( FFX, FFX-2, Xenosaga, Tekken series ).
Tidak membutuhkan CPU yang kuat.
Warna lebih vivid sesuai dengan pola rasterizer kartu grafis.

Kerugian :

Kadang antara grafis dan sound nggak sinkron, karena sound langsung diakses dari CPU.
Resolusi asli PS2! 512x416 ! Big minus! Karena resolusi yang kecil inilah, grafik card nggak bisa kerja optimal. Gw baru denger desingan HSF kartu grafis waktu gw naikin anti aliasing nya sampai 16x FSAA.
Seperti kartu grafis, depth layer yang terlalu banyak lebih berperan besar menurunkan performa rendering. Jadi jangan kaget kalo di dalam sebuah menu, bakal ada degradasi performa besar besaran, bisa diatasi dengan pembatasan depth layer.


Dengan keunggulan dan kerugian yang dibahas singkat diatas, paling enggak memberikan gambaran bahwa ZeroGS dan GSdx punya fungsi dan kans masing masing.

Sayang buat ZeroGS karena nggak punya kapabilitas buat ningkatin tingkat internal resolution nya, dengan resolusi sekecil itu 512x400 sekian itu, terlalu kecil buat game manapun untuk bisa diambil alih oleh GPU kecuali pengolahan shader nya.

ZeroGS memang lebih intense ke GPU, karena mang tujuan mengurangi load CPU, dia transfer sebanyak mungkin perhtiungan ke GPU.
tapi bukan berarti Gsdx cpu aja pada mode software emang full CPU, tapi pada mode hardware juga make GPU ko' cuman masih ada fair share lah si CPU. karena itu tuntutan ga harus GPU kelas atas udah bisa make Gsdx.

oia, masalah pixel shader, berjalan pada mode hardware GPU ko' winged. kalo berjalan pada mode emulasi, harusnya dipaksa pake PS berapa aja bisa ga tergantung card yang dimiliki kan. tapi dari beberapa rig yang aku punya, pemakaian PS pilihan sesuai kemampuan card-ku tuh gsdx juga ga akan jalan di card model lama yang ga punya minimal PS 2.0

oia, zeroGS ada yanga neh meski syarat minimal PS 2.0, tapi ga mau jalan di salah satu rig-ku yang punya Pixel shader 2.0, tapi kalo aku jalanin di OS x64 dan instalasi pcsx2 x64 dan zeroGS x64, mau jalan.. aneh

yasud ah, masih lebih suka gsdx

hehe
gw ngelihat nya nggak gitu soalnya kenapa ?
pake gsdx, game gw, dalam hal ini xenosaga, final fantasy x-2 dan tekken 5, minta ampun mampus jalan nya. tersendat, dan patah patah, padahal cpu gw di 90%+ terus.

begitu pindah ke zeroGS, langsung lancar semuanya dalam kondisi cpu kepake cuma 20%, kecuali yang punya layering banyak minta ampun ( di depan desa besaid, layar menu ffx-2, battle scene xenosaga, dll ) yang terlalu banyak layer, bikin zeroGS keok. Pembatasan layer bisa dilakukan di zeroGS, tapi berarti ngilangin beberapa elemen ( shadow dan button kadang ilang ).

Nah karena ky gitu, gw jadi mikir, apa zeroGS dan GSdx ini serupa tapi beda konsep ? Yang satu murni pake CPU ky PS2, dan yang lain pake kartu grafis raster. CPU grafisnya PS2 khan setau gw juga bukan raster, tapi vektor.

di blognya pcsx2.net ada ko' penjelasan mengenai GS plugin, dan kenapa zeroGS tuh termasuk GPU hogger.
tapi yang pasti GSdx bukan murni CPU meski perhitungan juga melibatkan CPU.
di blog itu juga dijelasin, ntar ku cari2 lagi deh.

si zero GS membuat grafis game jadi juelek banget jauh kalo dibandingin ama GSDX

Yang jelas, di GSDX gw pake internal res 1440x900 itu FFX-2 ga bisa jalan lancar di battle scene ( 20 - 30 fps ), begitu pake ZeroGS AAx16, kualitas grafis mirip tapi 100% lancar. Yang gak lancar malah menu.

Begitu juga di tekken 5, gsdx ga bisa jalanin lancar, zeroGS 90% lancar. FPS diatas 50 dengan AAx16

Kalo AA udah x16 grafis nya mirip banget. Tapi kalo double internal reso ( misal reso monitor 1024x768, lo kasi aja di 2084x1536 ) emang lebih alus. Cuman sayang nya itu, ga ada AA.

Gw pake ZeroGS 0.9.71, semua game lancar, yang gak lancar di menu nya
better use ZeroGS kalo game nya pake shader yang brutal.
