Majalah Official Xbox Magazine (OXM) merilis review perdana game Saints Row 2. Mereka memberikan penilaian dengan total nilai 8/10. Poin-poin yang dijadikan kesimpulan dari penilaian adalah :

Verdict:

+ There's a massive amount to do
+ It's very, very funny
+ A major improvement over the first

- Multiplayer's not fantastic
- Still some glitches

Seperti yang bisa dilihat, penilaian positif dari game ini terletak di segi kebebasan bermain yang didukung dengan banyaknya aktivitas dan fitur-fitur unik, sedangkan penilaian negatif diberikan terhadap mode multiplayer yang kurang variatif jenis tantangannya dan isu-isu performa seperti clipping juga menjadi poin negatif.
