Update: Acer NOT Making Game Console
So very often, we're led astray by misinterpretations, misquotes and mistranslations. Such is the case with the biggest piece of news from earlier this week, which involved PC notebook-maker Acer jumping into the video game console market.
According to the Videogaming247 blog, Acer has confirmed
that story wasn't accurate, due to "misinterpreted quotes."
“That was a major misunderstanding as JT [James T Wong, Acer’s senior VP - Ed] was wrongly interpreted,” said a UK spokesperson for the firm. “Acer is not going to release any game console but the idea is to develop a high-end PC (so not a console) targeted at the serious gamer.”
By all rights, we probably should've read between the lines and assumed that this was the case, but so
many people were quick to ponder a fourth competitor in the console market. From a business standpoint, we really don't think it would be a smart move, and in retrospect, it makes much more sense that Acer is planning to produce a high-end PC. Well, at the very least, it'll be geared toward avid gamers, so at least that's something, right?
